"Let's make a handcrafted restaurant by ourselves!!"
Those words as our slogan, we started our story with our friends in late 2011.
Opening my own restaurant was one of my goals in life, it was a big challenge especially because I had a family with 3 little kids. I was scared.
Fortunately, I have an open-minded wife
and very kind friends, they helped me with my venture without any physical rewards.
I found this place that used to be a real estate office, they have not used the courtyard and back area at all.
Apparently this was an Italian restaurant before the real estate office.
I saw an old broken bench seat on the wall, vestige of a wood-fire pizza oven and counter for serving pizza in the ruined courtyard. It was in a severe state of disrepair.
We started cleaning up the whole area,
then everyone came up with ideas to make the restaurant look good.
We mortared and painted the walls,
laid bricks, rearranged the pavers,
took old chairs apart, painted and reassembled them, sanded and repainted tables and put some decorations on the ceilings and walls.
It took 2 months to prepare,
It was fun to create a restaurant with
It was like a club activity at school in Japan, brought back a feeling of nostalgia from our teenage years.
After the work we had dinner and drinks every weekend.
It was one of most enjoyable times
in my life.
November 2011, we opened the doors of Cocotte Dining that we put a love into creating.
We are receiving lots of love from very kind local customers...sharing the love.
